Why stories?

What has made internet support for the anthology in terms of readers?
The electronic format is always popular for the ease of access. By this I mean that the electronic anthology will be much read the paper. I decided to go online because the idea is to introduce readers to present our work and they decide when and how to read, to whom and in what order. The freedom that the internet will not ever with the printed version. We hope to be published in most countries as possible for readers of electronics may also be able to access the second part of the project.
What type of feedback has been the initiative and who?

"My story was born two years ago at a workshop of Mayra Santos-Febres. But The inspiration came from the story of the American writer Ambrose Bierce "The Strange Case of the Owl River Bridge ', which details the death of a soldier and speaks on the dark side of man before making a decision. The protagonist of my story draws the scene of Ambrose in the Owl River. I wanted to make a game like Escher's paintings that are out of the box, I wanted the picture of the story and jump out of it " says Arroyo Pizarro.
The author, who last year was part of the conference "Bogota 39", considered that their participation helps to "put Puerto Rico on the map."

With "Another story of Cats", Hugo Rios, based in the United States, where he finished a doctorate at Rutgers University, participating in the project. "The point common date of birth, and therefore have lived more or less the same age experiences as diverse as the Iraq war, the suicide of Kurt Cobain or subversion in South America. "The future is not ours: American storytellers
have emerged in recent years, several anthologies of young writers, new voices Mexican narrative: stories Anthology (2002), Bogotá 39 (2007) and Great hits, Vol 1 (2008) to name just a few of the more recent and controversial. Well, today I received news of another sucite surely some discussion: The future is not ours: American storytellers. To my knowledge, this is a digital anthology, though if there are no printed version to read it I would be interested too. The issue was addressed by Diego Trelles Paz, Peruvian writer and former student at the University of Texas at Austin, which means, of course, my colleague. Sixty-three stories selected by Trelles Paz, can be read online at Colombian magazine Footer. Authors from 16 different countries, born between 1970 and 1980, who lived in their training the fall of the Berlin Wall, the suicide of Kurt Cobain, the emergence of Internet and the invasion of Iraq by the U.S.. UU. Alejandro Zambra, Santiago Roncagliolo, Andrew Neuman, Antonio Coelho Ungar and Oliver are among the names that can be read here. The project will not only stay on the internet. Also prepared a paper version may be published in various countries of the continent (one per country) and the first will be Argentina, in early 2009, through the Cadence label Eternal . The other peculiarity of this anthology is its negation, which worries from the title. "I hope that there is no jealousy on the part of anyone, but I dare say that the narrative written by women in recent years is much more daring, experimental, free, written by the men. I had already been thinking for some time and come to corroborate the reading of selected stories The future is not our . If we talk only of poetry and prose written in English, is not news to anyone women have had to deal enough to give legitimacy to his writings, and to legitimize themselves through their writings. Of course, sometimes these worries claiming ownership played a role against his own writing and the aesthetic were left out in search of an assertion both individually and collectively. " Well, read an anthology more sixty authors take their time. I must say that I started with authors who already knew, say that with the elderly. It was nice reunion with the prose of Venezuelans Slavko Supcic or Luigi Armando Castañeda, always playful, more closely. I read the story of José Pérez Reyes because some years ago he gave me his book, I read anything and not get excited. Hoped to reconcile with his writing, but I confess I was half. The suggestion that has gained in fluidity, demolishes soon overwhelmed with images like: "Suddenly the rain wet aggressively dropped glove." Then I read Carlos Wynter Melo. This story already had before and, without doubt, bet on the winner Wynter, because I think this story fit in perfectly all his writing. With tales of Neuman and Gonzalo Andrés Garcés, what I can tell. Gives the impression that the craft of writing they had learned before birth. With Alejandro Zambra passes that just do not understand what you're telling, you sense that there is a personal world behind. It goes beyond the fact of storytelling. If looking for something else, he already found. I admire the audacity of the story of Javier Payet, but I read his text much more engaging. That boldness also found in Antonio Ungar and I'm fascinated with the plasticity of his prose, with the force of his narrative. After such excitement, obviously, could not read with the same eyes tales Antonio Ortuño and Ricardo Silva Romero. I liked both stories: effective direct.
Naturally, I went to the Peruvian writers. I was struck by the careful selection of authors. Jeremiah Santiago Gamboa Roncagliolo and attached to the action, the weight of the environment, are quite effective. At the other extreme, Marco García Falcón, Alexis and Carlos Yushimito Iparraguirre. I like what I write three: his prose carefully, its high level of suggestion, but, I confess, I would find more differences between the three. More daring tales seem Diego Luis Trelles and Savior, as if trying to reinvent itself from its earliest texts.
I know what I'm saying nothing will change. Best. I still have to refer to others. Have noticed that I did not mention any women. With them I have nothing else to say. It takes time to understand me. "

"Those listed have in common is having been born in Latin America between 1970 and 1980. This was announced by the subtitle of the anthology and then Trelles explains in the prologue. The set this time round as admitting the limitations this entails and the risk on the grounds of establishing a boundary to what can be understood as a previous generation, which had its respective standing in anthologies like, Mc Ondo, Lines S air and and speaks English. I wonder whether the stories included in this volume reveal (or are forced to reveal) a different aesthetic, a common proposal. I think not. "Recently we learned of the release of The future is not ours anthology of Latin American narrators born between 1970 and 1980 and published online in the Colombian magazine piedepágina ( "boldly printed magazine that managed to reach number 12" , according to them). Conceived as a bipartisan project (a digital version will follow a printed version to be published in 2009 in Argentina) the stories of the future is not ours are selected and prefaced by the Peruvian writer residing in the U.S., Diego Trelles Paz.
digital version of the anthology brings together 63 stories from 16 countries, while the print edition will bring together 20 writers (many of whom participate in the digital version, but with different stories) from 14 countries. In addition, four new authors will be in the paper version: Samantha Schweblin (Argentina), Santiago Nazarian (Brazil), Juan Gabriel Vasquez (Colombia) and Daniel Alarcon (Peru).
Beyond the controversies that can always provide compilations anthologies, we wish to emphasize that this is a project designed for two media of publication. "Peruvian writer Diego Trelles Paz and Footer Colombian magazine just released the digital anthology The future is not ours: writers of English America 1970-1980, an extensive collection that serves as showcase of new Latin American literature. In addition to a foreword by Trelles Paz, the book has an introductory text Naief Yehya.
